Adil Rashid may come back in Test squad
Ever since Adil Rashid has bowled a spitting cobra to the Indian captain Virat Kohli in the deciding ODI, speculations are rife that the hosts might consider him for the Test series as well. England are yet to announce their squad for the five-match contest and it is very much a possibility for the leggie to feature in it. However, Rashid himself has now opened up on his Test return. He played his last game in the format in December 2016 in India when England were hammered by 4-0. Having failed to break into the team since then, the leggie signed only a white-ball contract with Yorkshire in February earlier this year which has worked perfectly for him. Rashid has been bowling exceptionally well and was one of the best bowlers in the ODI series against Australia and India.

I’ll consider it

England coach Trevor Bayliss has also admitted to the fact that Adil Rashid could be in line to return to the Test side. But ECB will have to consider the thoughts of the leg-spinner as well if he is willing to contribute to the team in whites. Rashid has cleared that he currently wants to concentrate on his upcoming game for Yorkshire but he will definitely consider coming back in Tests if the selectors urge him to do so.

“Right now I’m focusing on white-ball cricket for Yorkshire – starting with Friday’s (July 20) Roses match against Lancashire – but if England do want me to be part of the squad for the Test series against India then I’ll consider it,” he said in his diary for Sky Sports Cricket. However, he also added that he would’ve considered playing red-ball cricket again in the future but his focus was entirely on limited-overs format until the World Cup. “I made the decision earlier this year to focus on playing white-ball cricket to see how it felt but always knew that if I found I was missing red-ball cricket then I would go back to it. So if the selectors come and show faith in me then I would consider it, whatever role they want me to do,” the 30-year-old further said.
